Forest Service: Hunter caused huge wildfire near Yosemite

The agency said there is no indication the hunter was involved with illegal marijuana cultivation, .....
sounds like the local Chief got a little ahead of their self speculating it was cause by a marijuana growing operation..

The actual comment was that "a marijuana grow was highly suspect". This is the same Chief that is a member of SCSIIMT that was running the fire at the time. So he had some knowledge of what was going on. He did not actually say that it WAS the cause, just that it was suspect.

What is the fire doing today ? Sierra Front under red flag for winds and low RH. Still a lot of smoke south of the Carson Valley.

It looks like it's going for an afternoon walk. Is it still in the kennel?

Looking at where this fire started I would be thinking the same thing but the boots on the ground made the call so guess that puts an end to the speculation.

Highway 120 from Groveland to Yosemite is open now, however Tioga Road (Hwy 120) in YNP is CLOSED from Crane Flat to White Wolf until further notice. Hwy 120 doesn't turn into Tioga Road until Crane Flat in YNP.

Took the scenic route home from Sacramento today and drove up 120 through the park and wow is the only word I have to describe the magnitude of driving for over 15 miles of burn. Must say from what I saw the young PP plantations from the 87 fires took the biggest hit with most of them along 120 burned up during crowning runs. I looked to me like none of these stands had been precommercial thinned at all judging from the spacing of black sticks left behind. Lots of crown scorch and holes punched into larger stands towards YNP with 2 areas that stood out as looking good after the fire went through. The rx burns from Hodgden up towards Crane flat look very good and the area west of Berkely camp that was recently commerially thinned with a TS look like it may pull through even though alot of the WF crowns were pretty scorched. It was a pretty humbling drive to look north as far as u can see and its all burned. I hope this sight sinks in with the public and they start to push for congressional action to change the air quality regs and give the agencies more leeway in doing more burning as I see this will be most effective way to manage the surface fuel loads that logging and precommercial thinning and piling cannot do over large acreages. Thinning trees with timber sales and precommercial work have their place but with fires of this magnitude becoming our normal in the future managed fire has to be ramped up throughout the Sierra Nevada's
